Swimming Sports

"On your marks, get set... GO!" Mr Robertson's voice filled the room. Swimming Sports had started. The children dived into the freezing cold water. The last row stepped onto the diving board and prepared for the next race.
"Girls non - competitive freestyle, please come and line up!" Mrs Dennison called. I was shivering. Oh no, that's me.
As soon as I stood on the diving board, I regretted everything.
"On your marks," Mr Robertson called once again. I slid into the pool and prepared myself. "Get set... GO!".  I set off and immediately felt the coldness sweep through me. I stared down at the blue ground beneath me.
How long is this going to last?
Before I knew it, I was there. Slowly, I climbed out.
"You came 5th" A parent said. Excitement flushed through me.

The Senior Syndicate had swimming sports on Monday. I entered Non - Competitive Freestyle and Flutter board. Flutter board was fun. Hannah and I went slowly "comforting" each other.

What's On Top

Yesterday on the 8th of November I went to the College Street School Spring Gala. This happens once a year. I had swimming first but after that I went to the gala. Swimming wouldn't stop me from going to the gala! My favourite was the candy floss. It was big, pink and very puffy. It was quite fun watching buckets of water get poured onto the teachers. There were all sorts of stalls there like candy stalls, food stalls, bead stalls, mystery jars... almost everything! There were performances and raffles. There was a bike raffle and one person from each syndicate gets called up to win the bike. All our names are put in the draw. If a name gets called and the person that got called doesn't come up or isn't here, the people that draw the names out draws another person. In the senior sydicate I didn't win but Sophie Palmer did. Although I didn't win the bike, it was still great fun going to the Gala because there were lots of stuff there and friends. I look forward going next year and I reccomend going to the College Street School Gala next year. 

Graphic Design - Everybody is Different

This is my graphic design that I made about everybody is different. I really like the background that I made out of shapes and the colours I used. I think it is very bright and colourful.

My School Holidays

In the school holidays I went to china with my family. We met lots of friends and went to a lot of places. My favourite part of the holidays was I got to meet some new friends. We went to some new places. They were very fun and interesting, different to New Zealand. There were always people filling up the streets and traffic jams. It was actually quite fun while sitting in the car during a traffic jam because I got to see a lot of different things like the buildings and the shops. It was a very fun trip because I was with my family.

Hannah and Wendy - Stop Motion Animation

On Tuesday GRi11 went to The Mind Lab. We learnt a lot of new things. We did 3D Printing, Makey Makey, Car Making, Stop Motion Animation and Scribble Bot. My favourite was the Stop Motion Animation because Hannah and I failed a lot because the camera kept moving so it wouldn't match up. But then we added random stuff to it because there was a lot of cool stuff we could use. We had to try several times and keep the camera still so it would match up with the screen. It is short and random.

The Lost Coin

The Lost Coin.

‘ 1 Dollar, 2, 3, 4… hm, where’s my other 1 dollar coin?’ I said to myself. I went on my knees and started crawling around the floor in my room. I slowly slid under my bed and searched in the dark. My hand patted the ground slowly. I wish I had a coin machine that could find coins. * Sigh *. ‘ It must be here somewhere I mean I just earned it a minute ago. Maybe I dropped it on the way upstairs? ‘ I thought to myself. ‘ I wonder where it is?‘ I needed to retrace my steps.

It was a hot summer afternoon. I’d just come in from watering the plants and planting some new ones. I was in the kitchen getting a glass of water. I was sure Mum had given me the dollar for my chores.

I crawled up the stairs and stared at every little spot that the coin could possibly be.

‘Well, this coin really hates me! ‘I muttered. I moaned to myself loudly several times.

‘Hey, what’s with all this moaning? Is there anything that I can help you with? ‘

My mum had heard me moaning. Suddenly a great thought popped into my head… Mum might have another coin.

“Well, after I did my chores and collected my money from you, I went upstairs to count it and add it to my Piggy Bank, but one dollar was missing… ‘.

I stared at her hopefully.

“Oh. So that was what all the fuss was about! I was searching in my pocket for the other 1 dollar that I should've given you but you ran off so quickly! I found it in my pocket, but then got busy cleaning that I forgot all about it.

“Anyway…” she said digging in her pocket.  “Aha! Here it is. There you go.”

The coin shone in her hand under the sun.

“Haha, thank you. I should've asked you first.”  I still had that hopeful look on my face hoping Mum would have another coin in her pocket for me…

“No need to look at me like that!” She grinned.

Creative Candles

We are Creative Candles. We make homemade, crayon candles that smell of vanilla. We are preparing to sell the candles that we produced soon. If you are willing to buy one, the information is below:

Where: We are selling our candles via College Street Normal School.

What: We are selling our home-made scented candles.

Why: We are making these to fundraise for our class trip to Mind Lab in Wellington.

Price: 2 Small candles for $5

        Small candles for $3.50

        Large candles for $7

Small candles have a variety of colours bright and dark.
Big candles: In one candle we have turquoise/green, brown and blue.

GRi11 Businesses - Creative Candles

This term In GRi11 we have been learning about businesses. We got split up into groups and had to think about what businesses we could make for GRi11 Industries. Our group decided to make Crayon Candles. Our groups name is called Creative Candles. We have finished making them and are preparing to sell them to raise money for our trip to Mind Lab in Wellington.

Back To School

I carefully crossed of the last day of the holidays on my calendar. ' Everything has to be perfect ' I said to myself. I made sure my homework was done and... what else? I started walking around the house aimlessly. Everything was perfect, I was perfect. The day rolled around, it was night time. * The next day *. My eyelids slowly opened. The sun shone in my eyes. ' Its, it's... uhh. ' I muttered. Suddenly the thought burst in my head. ' IT'S THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! '. After all the morning stuff whizzed by, it was time for school. I slowly walked into the school entrance waiting to find something. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Miss Gordon. I ran for it, unzipped my bag and pulled my ' Doodle 4 Google ' out. I held my breathe waiting. '  Wow, Wendy ' Her eyes scanned the page. I zoomed off to class. In no time and was soon sitting on the mat with the teacher calling out the roll. ' Yes ' I called out while I just sat there trying to think of what we would learn about today.

A Trip Around Planet Earth

5, 4, 3, 2, 1… Blast Off! ‘ We’re going on a trip in our favourite rocket ship soaring through the sky… ‘ sang Green the Alien. ‘ Well, we want to go somewhere more different so maybe a planet that’s more wet since our planet is so boring and dry. This vacation must be better than the last one! Remember last time? ...‘ ‘ Uh, yeah.’ I was trying to think of something to change the subject. ‘ Maybe that planet over there?’ I pointed to this blue, green and white planet floating in the distance. ‘ Let’s go there! ‘ . Well, that’s actually called Earth. I spun around and stared at the weird looking thing standing there. It was almost my size. Thoughts rolled into my mind. We zoomed off in the spaceship and arrived in no time. ‘ Hi, I’m Fred the human. Sorry that I’m late, I was sent here for special assistance. Such as guiding and explaining about planet Earth. I hear that you are going on a special trip, eh? ‘ he said acting like he was the boss here. ‘ Yeah, well I really want to know more about this planet that we’re going to, I mean it sounds cool but I’m not feeling so good about it. ‘ I shook my head when I was talking. ‘ Ok, let me tell you some ‘ Need To Know Information ‘ and then we’ll move onto some cool facts. I mean, this is really cool stuff! I bet you’ll want to stay there. ‘ He announced. I rolled my eyes at green next to me and I knew by that look on his face that he was bored. ‘ So, Earth also known as the ‘ World ‘ is the third planet from the sun. Also it is 4.54 billion years old! ‘ Fred was literally shouting. ‘ Really? ‘ Green seemed to be interested now. ‘ You bet! ‘ he exclaimed. Yeah right I thought. ‘ Moving on, the distance from the sun is 149,600,000 km. Also there is some dangerous creatures such as me but don’t worry, I won't harm you! ‘. ‘ You look pretty funny to me ‘ I muttered. ‘ Oh look, we’re nearly there! ‘ He quickly sat down and buckled himself up. Screech went the spaceship wheels. I scrunched up my face in disgust. We finally arrived to the holiday planet. ‘ I hear there are beaches here and sand castles? ‘ I asked curiously. I was in a bad mood because I was so interested in the cool features such as beaches and stuff that I was so distracted. ‘ Yeah I’ll take you there if you want ‘ Fred said. ‘ You bet! ‘ shouted Green. ‘ Wow, It looks like I’m coming back! ‘ I was surely amazed.

Without warning, part of me went flying through the air while even more of me went soaring through the air onto the bank beside me. A big figure slipped through me like a duck. That’s when a strange thought occurred me. I had no time to think about it because his hairy body had attacked me. My dirty slimy body stained his clothes. He was now well covered in me. The disgusted look on his face looked like he had been running in a race. In no time he had sunk into me. He was struggling to get out, well at least I think he was. He had now stopped struggling, but his legs had started kicking and he was now floating through me like a boat. The hairy body was the least of my problems. His face popping out of me. “ What did you do that for! “ his face bobbing up and down while he was talking. “ Haha… “ his friend yelled from the top. He started kicking again. When the friends noticed, he tried to catch up while trying not to slip. “ SPLASH! “ He landed face first in the water. “ Ha, I gotcha! “.

Art is one of my favourite activities. My favourite thing is that there is no wrong and no limit in how creative you can be. You can create a piece of art in anyway you want, such as lines and circles. Even scribbles can count as art. I like how you don't have to take lessons to know how to do art or to be perfect at art because you already are. I also like drawing cartoons giving it a bit of my own twist to express myself. Art is a way of expressing yourself ( We have been learning about expression / expressing ). I can draw how I'm feeling not by using smiley faces or sad faces but by using different patterns.    Such as: ( Examples )

Relaxed - Big soft wavy lines. Angry - Very strong movement, Big sharp spiky lines.

My Camp Procedure - Kayaking

Camp Procedure - Kayaking

After you read this kayaking procedure you should be able to do the basics of kayaking.

Supplies
- Lake
- Lifejackets
- Kayak
- Paddle
- Confidence

Method

1. Put your Lifejacket on
2. Carefully put your kayak in the water
3. Go into your kayak - make sure your kayak is balanced
4. Your legs should be stretched out apart - slightly bent
5. Now, make sure that you paddle is facing the right way ( the end of the paddle the plastic bit is facing towards you )
6. Keep your right hand relaxed
7. Keep Paddling one side then the other to go straight
8. To turn left, tilt you paddle to the right and keep paddling on the right
9. If you want to turn right, again tilt your paddle to the left making sure the right side is in the water and e other side in the air
10. Paddle around the lake and have fun.
